Lynelle update 4/26/11

Just a quick update on Lynn – the blood test that qualifies her for the experimental gene therapy came up positive so she is a candidate for that therapy – it can be used after surgery to help keep the cancer in control or in lieu of surgery if she can’t get her protein levels up.

UPDATE 4/12/11

Hey Cary, here at Cancer Treatment Center of America in Zion, IL. Wow...the patient care is phenominal!!! We are assisted by someone every step of the way. A white limo awaited us at the airport and that kind of service has continued. Met with one surgical oncologist yesterday. We will meet with him again once all info to him and he can make full assessment, which is done with another oncologist. All vitals taken yesterday and final scan done today. Met with Mind/Body therapist, nutritionist, naturalpath today. We have free day tomorrow and hoping to venture out and do some exploring. Meet with oncologist and team on Friday and will get assessment and treatment options then. When you meet with the oncologist you always meet with the team; nutritionist, naturalpath, physicians asst. Great food in cafeteria, 5 star chefs running the show. Lynelle is doing pretty good. Was hard after meeting with Dr yesterday as brings reality of situation to surface along with fears. Her pain level pretty consistant at a 4, ibuprofin reduces to 1 or so. She gets pretty tired around 2 or so. Nutritionist said is normal and they have ways to improve as did the mind/body therapist. I got tell ya, for one dealing with this kind of challenge, this IS the place to be. They put the patient first and make sure you are well informed about everything, though mostly about your diagnosis. Hope you can use this info for the blog. Will get you more after Friday k?

Lynelle update

Lynelle met with Dr. Hedy Kindler at the University of Chicago on 3-30-11 after her CAT scan there on 3-29-11.  The 3 chemo treatments she received in Omaha were not effective in shrinking her tumor so she will not continue with that type.  Although not a candidate for surgery, Dr. Kindler suggested three other types of chemo, all with low side effects, that have been effective in shrinkage or stabilization of some mesothelioma tumors. Lynelle will be considering whether to start one of them in the near future.
