Lynelle update 1/26/11

Lynelle met with Omaha oncologist, Dr. Langdon yesterday 1/25/11. She will be working with him as he will coordinate treatments with Dr. Hedy Kindler in Chicago.  This way Lynelle can be treated in Omaha.  Friday (1/27/11) she goes in to have a port put in and chemo treatment to start on Tuesday, if all goes well.  She is scheduled for 6 treatments, one every 3 weeks. After chemo treatments have shrunk and thinned the tumor surgery can be performed.

Pics for Lynelle

Message for Lynelle from Carol

Message for Lynelle:  Hey Lynelle!  I'm thinking of you and sending warm Florida vibes your way.  : ) I wanted to send you a musical message, since it's something we share.  So here goes..... Think of this chapter of your life as an unfinished song you are composing.  You only know the scale you have been given to work with.  It will go up, it will go down, there will be LOTS of "wrong notes" along the way.  You will have to improvise around those notes and add new ones of your own.  You haven't figured it all out yet but it will have a "repeat" section where you will have to go back and start at the beginning again, rework a few melodies from a minor key to a major one.   The results will be improvements.   And all the time you will be learning new stuff and getting carried away to a whole new level of accomplishment and understanding.  I always love it when a lightbulb comes on above your head and you say, "oh...WOW!"  There are lots of "oh...WOW" moments ahead for you.  Seek them out!  Never lose hope or faith.  I want to give you some more piano lessons, woman.....hope you will be well enough soon.

Update-1/16/10

The next step was determined by learning specifics about where the cancer is and the thickness of the tumor. For this Lynelle had a CAT scan that confirmed that tumor is too thick for surgery at this time. It was determined that Lynelle needs chemo to shrink tumor and will then be a candidate for surgery. The major tumor is located in the pleura of the left lung and has advanced to the diaphragm and a bit onto the apex. It is not in her abdomen or right lung at this time.  The surgeon believes he can get 98% of all of the cancer, which for mesothylioma is considered a cure. Hoping to extend her life for 5-7 years.

Currently there is no further information regarding the chemo. Lynelle is hoping to work with a doctor (name not available) in Omaha in regards to the chemo as Dr. Hedy has co-treated patients with this doctor in Nebraska prior.

Once the chemo treatments have shrunk tumor Lynelle will be a candidate for the surgery to remove the cancer.

Lynelle will also be calling Dr. Joe Brown in Arizona to compare a non traditional approach vs traditional approach for treatment options.

A Poem for Lynelle from Vicki Parsons

Cancer will not win

Mesothelioma is an evil Lung cancer
That has struck me, and has no answer

Some might sit here to wait and wonder
I’m here to fight and not to ponder

Friends beside me through thick and thin
Never gonna let this Cancer Win

Sometimes Life might throw you a curve.
That damn Cancer has got some nerve

I might be little and sometimes kinda flighty
I will get through this with my God almighty

Never gonna give up, Never gonna give in
Never gonna let this Cancer Win

Update

Just spoke to Lynelle, she had 42 phone messages on her home and cell phone. She was relieved to know the blog was up for viewing now.

Next Wednesday on Jan 12, Lynelle will visit mesothelioma specialist Hedy Kindler in Chicago , a highly regarded oncologist. If Lynelle is a candidate for surgery she will consult with a surgeon the next day and will plan for the next steps for lung surgery. Depending on how this goes in Chicago will determine the next steps. Lynelle is also in contact with renowned Oncologist, Dr. James Forsythe in Reno, NV. If necessary she will make the trek to see him as well. It just depends how it goes in Chicago.

About Dr. KindlerHedy Lee Kindler, MD, is an internationally known cancer expert who specializes in the medical treatment of gastrointestinal cancers and mesothelioma, a type of lung cancer that is primarily caused by overexposure to asbestos. Dr. Kindler is actively investigating several types of new treatments for cancer, including novel drugs that slow the growth of blood vessels to pancreatic tumors, and therapies that target the unique biology of mesothelioma. Dr. Kindler is a member of several cancer research groups, and serves as the chair of the mesothelioma subcommittee of Cancer and Leukemia Group B, a national cooperative cancer research group. A prolific author, Dr. Kindler has written several book chapters and has published nearly 50 scientific articles. She is a member of the editorial board of BioOncology Watch, and serves as a reviewer for many cancer journals.

About Dr. Forsythe-
At the Century Wellness Clinic, oncologist Dr. James Forsythe introduces options, hope, healing and recovery in treating cancer. He integrates conventional, and complementary treatments. Dr. Forsythe uses fractionated low-dose chemotherapy with Insulin Potentiated Therapy (IPT) along with non-toxic natural and homeopathic remedies. Also in his armamentarium, he includes vitamins, minerals, herbal and immune stimulating treatments. Dr. Forsythe's style in conquering cancer focuses on respect for the natural self healing properties of the body and its stressors. We discover your unique environmental challenges brought about by poor diet, lack of sleep, stress, decreased exercise, environmental pollutants, lack of supplementation and detoxification, insufficient enzymes, and non-usage of hormonal replacment therapy. Integrative medical treatments that are conquering cancer give the body an opportunity to restore itself back to optimal health. For more than a quarter century, thousands of patients from all parts of the globe have experienced health-enhancing therapies at our center.

First post

Since Lynelle received her diagnosis of Mesothelioma a few weeks ago, the outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming. Lynelle receives many, MANY phone calls each day from her friends and loved ones inquiring as to what the status is of this or the details of that.....(we don't like to say "the C word"). Lynelle is short of breath and is very fatigued on a daily basis. Talking at length on the phone exasperates this. For this reason we thought it would be a good idea to start a blog where updates on her health and treatments can be kept current. Those who are interested can get current information here on this blog rather than calling Lynelle.

Please understand, it's not that she doesn't want us to call, she loves us all very, very much.......... but her phone is ringing every minute of the day. She has hard work in front of her and none of us doubt her tenacity and strength to get through this with flying colors. Any additional quiet time she can have to herself (rather than talking on the phone) to muster this strength she will need for this journey, will be put to good use.

Please use this forum to post notes of love, funny stories and words of support for Lynelle here so that she can read them on a schedule that works for her, when she has the strength and the time to do so.

**This blog has been created with blessings from Lynelle. More than anything right now she needs our prayers, love and good energy.
